University of Massachusetts at Amherst (UMass Amherst) is a prestigious public university in Amherst, Massachusetts. It is the flagship institution of the University of Massachusetts system, and is also a member of the elite Five College Consortium. In Massachusetts, it is only behind MIT and Harvard in terms of student enrollment and number of research grants by the National Science Foundation.
